Waller and McDonald go to Rosehill on the precipice of recording their 500th win together, needing just one more win to achieve the rare feat.

McDonald has six rides at the meeting including four for the Waller stable.

They combine in the Rosehill opener, the Drinkwise Plate (1200m) with the consistent Sphere, a $6 chance in TAB Fixed Odds betting behind Bubbles Up at $2.90.

McDonald then rides Almaaz, a $12 chance in the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1500m) where Double Vision in at the top of betting at $2.80.

But the jockey's two best rides for Waller are in the final two race on the program including emerging three-year-old filluy Soverato, the $2.80 equal favourite for the TAB Handicap (1500m).

Soverato has only had three starts, winning her maiden at Kembla Grange back in November then resuming with a impressive effort to win by a comfortable margin at Canterbury.

Then in the closer, McDonald and Waller combine with promising Pictor, the $2.70 favourite for the Ole Kirk At Vinery Stud Handicap (1400m).

Pictor is taking on older horses first-up but he showed potential winning at Kensington and also finishing a close fourth at stakes level at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

McDonald has ridden more winners for Waller than any other jockey. The next best is Winx's rider Hugh Bowman with 429 wins for the trainer.

McDonald, who rode his 50th Group 1 winner for Waller on Via Sistina in the Champion Stakes last spring, will ride the trainer's superstar mare Autumn Glow in the Group 1 $1 million Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Then on Sunday, McDonald will ride champion Romantic Warrior in the Group 1 $13 million Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin.

  • Peter Moody and Luke Nolen have the most wins of any active Australian trainer-jockey combination.
Nolen has ridden an amazing 908 wins for Moody during their long association which is most famous for their success with the mighty Black Caviar.

  • Andrew Gibbons is also closing in on the 500-win milestone for trainer Kris Lees. They have combined for 484 wins.
