Incognito to launch Slipper campaign at Rosehill
One of the leading fancies for the Golden Slipper will be in action at Rosehill.
Golden Slipper equal favourite Incognito will take an important step on the road to the world's richest juvenile race when he resumes in the Canonbury Stakes at Rosehill.
A smart winner of the Breeders' Plate (1000m) in the spring, Incognito has prepared for his return with two trials, the most recent a competitive third behind well-performed stablemates Enriched and Manaal.
Trainer Michael Freedman is rapt with how well the colt has come back, physically and mentally.
"He has certainly strengthened up a little bit, and he's still got a beautiful temperament, which is just as important," Freedman said.
"I think he's come back in great order."
Freedman prepared Incognito's sire, 2021 Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside, who only made his debut two months before the feature and contested the Pierro Plate (1100m) and Todman Stakes (1200m) in the lead-up.
Incognito is on a slightly different path towards the $5 million race, although the Todman is also part of his program.
"The long-term plan would be the Canonbury into the Silver Slipper and Todman," Freedman said.
"Things can change a little bit with two-year-olds, but that would be the plan at the moment."
Eight colts and geldings have been paid up for Saturday's Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill, Incognito to carry 57.5kg under the set weights plus penalties conditions, three kilos more than his rivals.
A field of will line up in the Widden Stakes (1100m) for the fillies, including Incognito's barn mate Hardanger, who finished third to Slipper equal favourite Warwoven at her only start in December.
