BYD Quokka Day - all you need to know!

Perth Racing is proud to announce the return of the BYD Quokka (supported by Western Australia, Walking on a Dream) - WA's richest ever raceday, featuring one of the country's most exciting slot races!

Now in its fourth year, The BYD Quokka has quickly cemented itself as a must-watch moment on the national racing calendar. First staged in 2023, the race captured the imagination of racing fans across the country, with fierce interstate (and trans-Tasman) competition flocking to Perth for a chance at its $5M prize pool.

With the $5M BYD Quokka slot race taking centre stage, alongside the prestigious Group 2 Lawn Pride Australia $500,000 Karrakatta Plate and the $200,000 Drummond Golf Joey, racegoers can expect a 10 day race card.

BYD Quokka Day is set to be Perth Racing's most vibrant showcase of Western Australia yet. From the name of the race - the BYD Quokka, inspired by WA's famously photogenic marsupial known as the happiest animal on earth – to a WA-first spectacle: one of the largest WA flags (18X8m) ever drawn by horseback up the home straight during the national anthem — the day is designed to celebrate true local flavour.

BYD Quokka Day invites guests to soak up the sights, sounds, and flavours of WA in a vibrant atmosphere. From the region's best food and beverages to immersive trackside experiences, the day features everything from the autumn Fashions on the Field runway competition to live entertainment across the course.

And when the final race is run, the party doesn't stop — DJ Havana Brown promises to keep the energy high into the evening.

As racing makes a resurgence across the nation, BYD Quokka Day looks set to follow in the footsteps of other slot race successes, including Australia's richest race, The $20M TAB Everest in Sydney.

The 1200m slot race offers a dynamic format, this year with 13 starting positions purchased by slot holders, who can nominate their own runner or negotiate with owners to fill their place in the field.

Some of Australia's best horses are already locked in for the contest, including top level performers from the east coast, JEDIBEEL, CABALLUS and REY MAGNERIO, who are set to take on local superstars that include the unbeaten SMOOTH CHINO and star fillies LUANA MISS and TALKANCO. The final field won't be confirmed until the week before the race, but it's already setting up to be one of the best sprint contests in Australia.

Perth Racing CEO James Oldring is pleased to have Tourism WA back for its second year, and to also welcome BYD as the headline sponsor for the first time.

"The BYD Quokka is fast becoming an iconic feature in WA's major events calendar - not just as a premier race, but as an event experience that celebrates everything that makes this state special," Mr Oldring said.
