RANDWICK February 28 (Soft/Heavy)

Best Bets

RACE 6 - (5) GERRINGONG: Gets a barrier blanket for the first time, a positive move after a forgive run when resuming under 58kg in the G3 Triscay Stakes over 1200m at this course on February 14 where a negative ride from a wide barrier gave her little chance to figure in a leader dominated sprint home. With 3kg less she's meeting Manaal on 2.5kg better terms from that race and rates highly on her previous 1400m form that includes seconds in the G2 Invitation (won by Stefi Magnetica) and G2 Golden Pendant (won by Manaal).

RACE 9 – (9) AXIUS: He's already won five of his first nine starts including three on soft and heavy tracks. His rise up the ladder is set to continue as he is well placed on the limit weight after his classy win in last month's MM Sprint (1200m) at the Gold Coast under 56kg. Relishes a strong pace and prepped for this with an impressive 1200m trial placing last week.

RACE 10 – (6) ROSELYN'S STAR: Model of consistency, missing a place only twice in nine starts, and is primed for a peak performance after two excellent second placings since resuming last month. Last time over 1200m in this class at Rosehill he carried 58kg and conceded 5.5kg to the winner Sixties, an impressive form line as that classy 3YO has since won a G3 at Flemington. Rates to win with the benefit of Siena Grima's 3kg claim.

Selections

RACE 2: (17) BRAVE XENA; (10) Mrs Goldberg; (16) Ishikari; (2) Satin Stiletto

RACE 3: (11) FURIOUS; (10) Golden Century; (8) Glad You Think So; (4) Bear On The Loose

RACE 4: (8) HARDANGER; (4) Ciaron's Star; (6) Pembrey; (2) Spicy Miss

RACE 5: (4) WARWOVEN; (2) Knightsbridge; (1) Fireball; (7) High Alert

Why They Can Win….

RACE 1 - (5) FLIGHTCREW: Consistent in this class. Favourable conditions for an overdue win.

RACE 2 - (17) BRAVE XENA: Impressive wins on affected tracks. Can go on with it under her light weight.

RACE 3 - (11) FURIOUS: Winning form this course and distance and soft ground suits. Good value.

RACE 4 - (8) HARDANGER: Primed for this off two promising placings. Ready to run a strong 1200m.

RACE 5 - (4) WARWOVEN: Set the standard before his setback. Takes on 1200m off 56 days with no trial is the risk.

RACE 7 - (1) TEMPTED: Her Everest form stood up when resuming. Rates above her own sex, unbeaten on soft tracks.

RACE 8 - (8) AUTUMN GLOW: Gets better with every run. For good measure she's four from four on soft and heavy.

TRIAL POINTERS

RANDWICK February 19: The open heats over 1050m featured some eye catching efforts. ENRICHED trucked through his heat for an impressive win by more than four lengths (63.12; 33.18) and MEDIA WORLD was the one making the best impression with his strong second in the fastest of the three heats (62.44; 33.77). The two juvenile trials over 1050m featured promising efforts by the previously noted CAMPIONE D'ITALIA who came from well off the pace to finish second in his heat (63.11; 34.26), charging to the line over the last 50 metres. GOLDEN CENTURY put in his best work late in his open heat over 1200m and is a stayer to follow through the autumn.

WARWICK FARM February 16: The race fit WILLAIDOW finished second but probably wins his 795m trial (48.50; 34.28) if he had not speared wide on the turn after leading comfortably. COOL JAKEY also showed his usual speed to lead and win the other open heat over 795m (47.85; 34.43) in a strong trial where ROSELYN"S STAR performed with merit finishing an easy second. Juveniles to impress with promising efforts in their 795m heats included the previously noted ZENSEN and BARRACKS who again performed strongly to finish second. AXIUS is one I want to be with going forward after his impressive closing second in his 1200m heat.

ROSEHILL February 12: A strong session featuring some classy autumn prospects in three black type trials on the course proper. Heat 2 over 1000m in slow time (60.12; 33.99) saw class acts Yorkshire and KING OF ROSEAU go to the line together without being extended. KING OF ROSEAU took the trail before working underneath Yorkshire from the 300m and was under a good hold in the drive to the line to be beaten only a head. Craig Williams made another trip from Melbourne to ride SIR DELIUS and like his earlier trials he was under pressure over the last 400m and did not show much response under the whip to finish fourth. I am reserving judgement on his form until we see him resume under race conditions. In the 2YO heats over 900m winners to make the best impression included EURIPEDES (54.64; 34.66).

NEWCASTLE February 12: POMELO CHAMOMILE, a Maurice filly with race experience, worked home over the top of her rivals for a strong win in the fastest of the three 2YO heats over 850m (48.63; 33.84. LORD OF BISCAY made a good impression winning his open heat.

WARWICK FARM February 3: BARRACKS will take improvement from his win in a slow 820m heat (49.44; 34.86).

RANDWICK January 27: Craig Williams again came from Melbourne to ride SIR DELIUS in his second trial and he again came under a ride to pick up over the last 200m and find the line for third.

HAWKESBURY January 23: The fastest 800m heat was won by the unraced 2YO CONCRETE STORM, a Hello Youmzain colt from the O'Shea/Charlton stable. He tracked the leader and was strong to the line over the last 200m.

WARWICK FARM January 22: Youngsters to take the eye with good work in their trials included ZENSEN.

RANDWICK January 15: In the slowest of three black type heats (52.41; 34.86) SIR DELIUS was pushed along to make ground from last. He was extending nicely through the line to finish fourth in a hitout he obviously needed

RANDWICK KENSINGTON December 9: Seeing a 2YO by Frankel win its first trial is an eye opener and that was the case with Chris Waller producing CENTRAL EUROPE for a strong win (50.85; 34.14) that augers well for his future
