Tenacity to shine through for Biancelli
Co-trainer Mick Price says tenacity is one of the key attributes that has seen Biancelli remain unbeaten after three starts.
If wins at Stakes level were handed out on tenacity alone, then Biancelli would already be a Group 1 performer.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained mare is unbeaten in three starts and makes her return to racing in the Geoff Whiffin Sprint (1000m) at Cranbourne on Saturday.
Price said Biancelli was one of the most tenacious horses that he had put a saddle on, one that is unbeaten in three runs at 1000m.
While Biancelli is first-up on Saturday, Price said she was fit enough to run a strong 1000m with improvement to come.
"Beau (Mertens) has trialled her and she is the most tenacious mare, filly, which probably got her hurt," Price said.
"She went to Caulfield (Heath) and pulled up with a damaged knee which we had to get fixed and give her some time off.
"She's come back a beautiful, big, robust mare. It is only 1000 metres (on Saturday), and I think what she lacks in race day fitness, she will make up for it with tenacity.
"I remember that race at Caulfield, she was going to be beaten, but she just fought, fought, fought.
"She has that little thing in her DNA that sees her as a real fighter and that will take her a long way."
Price said it was hard to plan a summer campaign for Biancelli with her knee problem noting the firmer tracks could possibly act against her.
But further ahead Price would like to one day see the daughter of Cosmic Force potentially line up in a Stakes race.
"I haven't thought too much beyond Saturday," Price said.
"I just want to get her there, get a win, and then look after that.
"Like any female horse, you want to get Black Type. I reckon she can to that level, but whatever she does on Saturday, she will improve fitness wise."
