Staking Strategy: Hobart - Sunday, 23rd November 2025
After a brilliant Newmarket meeting on Friday night in Launceston, thoroughbred racing heads south on Sunday afternoon in Hobart.
It's a deep program with almost 100 acceptances across eight races.
The rail is in the true position with fine weather forecast.
R1 Power Solutions Tasmania Maiden, 1600m
Striding Bay (3) has been around the mark at his past couple and is ready to win. Struck a heavy track last start and boxed on soundly despite not looking entirely comfortable. The one to beat back on firmer ground. ALPINE COWGIRL (5) closed well but went down narrowly last start. Will appreciate getting back out in trip. CARNOTAURUS (7) finished just out of the placings in the same race and should be competitive again. PLAYED STRONG (9) was okay resuming and was too keen early. OXY BOLT (2) failed to handle the heavy ground last time. Form prior was sound.
R2 Power Solutions Tasmania Maiden, 1200m
Party Day (10) led too quickly when runner up behind Wanna Be Ziggy. She battled on well under the circumstances and was only reined in the final 100. NORTHERN CHILD (6) made good late ground in that race but did have tempo to suit. ARGYLL DIAMOND (8) produced a career best run behind Celestial Glow last time on a rain affected track. If can reproduce that form on firmer footing she has a case. SKY OF GOLD (13) was well-backed and had a very good run in transit at Launceston but wasn't able to quicken when asked. Now 4 weeks between runs , perhaps worth another chance. UP TO TORI (14) resumes and was far from disgraced on the heavy at her first start and could see improvement on a firmer footing. Thought the first starters have trialled only fairly but respect any market confidence.
R3 Ladbrokes Big Bets Maiden, 1200m
Verhoeven (3) didn't have a lot of luck last time behind Coal River and was arguably stiff not to win. Takes a power of beating here. SH' BOURNE ANGEL (12) trial win had plenty of merit and expecting a forward showing on debut. ZAMBEZI BLONDE (5) has also trialled well and looks an improver this time around. DON TURBOAS (4) won't find it easy drawn extremely wide but if he gets the luck can figure in the finish. NICALBI (2) was okay on debut after covering ground. ROYAL SCENE (8) will get back but ran on okay first up into third-place and did beat the rest of them easily.
R4 Southern Air Cl1 Hcp, 1200m
Daytona Diva (6) return run behind Mazzini was very good. They put a good gap on the rest of the field, which is always a good sign. Has a wide draw but her key rivals haven't fared much better including SNOWDONIA (3), who turned in a nice effort first up behind Blameitontheboogie. MISS DE LUNE (7) is back from a break and did win resuming last preparation. BRIGHT NIGHT (8) in the mix but will need plenty to go right from an awful gate. Next best CELESTIAL GLOW (11) and THE TRINE (2), both coming off last start maiden wins.
R5 Falkner Constructions Bm60 Hcp, 1390m
Typically tough BM 60 race. Hard to know where to start. Restricted Access (2) has been a good acquisition for the new stable with two wins on the board in the past couple of months. Won at this track and distance at his only try but does have to contend with several other rivals that will be pressing forward. KAKIA (1) is consistently around the money in these races but has a challenging map with speed drawn underneath. GINGERSON (4) last run had plenty of merit, working hard outside the leader. He stuck on very well. WITHIN SIGHT (5) and STEELE MY SUNSHINE (9) are last start winners at class 2 level and must include. NO ACCESS (8) not a regular winner but is seldom far away.
R6 Royal Australian Signals Centenary C1 Hcp, 1600m
Cool Conquest (9) keeps racing well in similar races and backs-up from another third-placing on Friday night. Maps perfectly. REGAL HUNTER (1) put the writing on the wall on debut then proved too good at Launceston despite covering ground and looks ready to handle the 1600m. THIN RED LINE (8) has been around the mark of late without winning and is better suited back at the mile. BLOOMING EDGE (2) got back at his first local start but did run on well and extra trip suits, poor strike rate the obvious knock. HENLEY EXTREME (4) has been consistent all prep but had every possible last start. JUDGE JENNI (5) is one of two last-start winners lining up. Just a moderate maiden she won at Launceston.
R7 Power Solutions Tasmania Bm76 Hcp, 1390m
Sh'Bourne Midnight (1) made amends last time for a luckless run first up when was caught wide throughout and never runs poorly. STONE COLD STUNNER (10) suited out in trip and a nice effort first up behind Crack The Shutters over 1200m. RUBBLE 'N' FUDD (9) has been his mixing form but remains unbeaten at this track from 4 outings. FIGHTING FLOYD (7) a last start winner and always dangerous this track & distance. VERBANO (12) finished just behind Fighting Floyd at his latest. FAST THINKER (5) chases fourth straight win and drops back sharply in trip but is versatile. JUST A NEEDS (3) was okay resuming when running on late with tempo against.
R8 Power Solutions Tasmania Bm60 Hcp, 1000m
Esprit Diva (9) was a terrific run last start behind Geegees Missile in a harder race over this track and trip. A repeat of that run goes close. ALPINE THUNDER (3) and AMANT FRANCAIS (8) are both speedy and will be in it for a long way. COOL HEART (5) had the run of the race and was successful in one of these races last outing and draws for the right run again. NAZORIAN (10) hit the front at Launceston turning for home but was just no match for Cool Heart. Can come across and sit just off the speed and will get his chance to atone. JEHBENTI (1) is clearly good enough and hardly put a foot wrong last preparation but has drawn the outside gate here which is no easy task over the 1000m.
