Sprinter Sacre set to undergo minor procedure
Nicky Henderson’s former top-class chaser Sprinter Sacre will undergo a “minor procedure” which will be funded entirely by Seven Barrows.
Vicki Roberts, who has been looking after the living legend throughout his retirement, set up a Gofundme page late on Tuesday evening in order to help with veterinary fees for the required procedure.
However, there was some confusion amongst who would pay for the veterinary bill and on Wednesday morning Nicky Henderson confirmed that he would be paying for the treatment.
A statement on X read: "It would appear that there has been some confusion last night and this morning over a Gofundme page set up for Sprinter Sacre.
"The Gofundme page was set up entirely independently of Seven Barrows and without Caroline Mould's (owner) or our knowledge.
"Sprinter is currently with a Seven Barrows vet at Donnington Veterinary surgery, where he will undergo a minor procedure, funded entirely by Seven Barrows.
"This was always the plan from the moment I was made aware of the issue, and we will continue to monitor the situation moving forward.
"Thankfully, Sprinter is absolutely fine and will return to his home in Gloucestershire tomorrow."
Sprinter Sacre won eighteen of his 24 career outings and amassed over £1 million in prize money. The multiple Grade 1 hero became one of the most popular horses of his generation and defied what most thought would be impossible when recovering from a major heart issue to regain his Champion Chase crown at the Cheltenham Festival a decade ago.
Nicky Henderson has suggested to Vicki Roberts that the money collected via the Gofundme page to be donated to Racing Welfare.
