Sky the limit for unbeaten Amreekiyah
Amreekiyah appears destined to feature in the carnival races after a “special” first-up win.
Peter Snowden is confidently eyeing bigger targets with Amreekiyah after the filly made a stunning start to her latest campaign with an outstanding performance at Canterbury.
Lumping 61kg, Amreekiyah ($1.70 fav) settled worse than midfield and spotted the leader a big start at the top of the straight before unleashing a powerful finish to overhaul O'Invincible ($14) by a half-length in the Broadsiding @ Darley Handicap (1250m).
It was her third win in as many starts following a brace of provincial victories earlier this year and Snowden said its breathtaking nature was reflective of what he'd seen at home.
"There is plenty more to come with her," Snowden told Sky Racing.
"She is still very raw yet but she's got so much potential.
"It was good to see her do something special because she has been showing for a while at home that she is a bit above average."
A rising four-year-old, Amreekiyah has deliberately returned a few weeks earlier than the bulk of the carnival horses as Snowden bids to bump up her rating and fitness to allow her to chime in to the better races.
"We brought her back for a reason at this time of year," he said.
"We're aiming for all those races but little steps first."
Earlier on Wednesday, Kerber ($8.50) stepped out of the shadow of her dual Group 1-winning sister In Secret to break her maiden at her second start.
A $1.15 million yearling buy, the daughter of I Am Invincible out of top performer Eloping showed good gate speed to make the running and narrowly stave off Miss Jones ($5.50) to score.
Jockey Jason Collett said Kerber was still maturing and open to significant improvement.
"There's definitely more there. She has still got a bit of growing up to do upstairs," Collett said.
"Her mind isn't completely on it yet, so when they're doing it like that, that's a sign there is more there to come."
Chris Waller brought up a two-year-old double when Skyglider led home a stable trifecta with a promising debut win in the Keenland September Yearling Sale Handicap (1200m).
