Sir Gino ‘doing well’ and set to return home next week
Nicky Henderson has provided a positive update on Sir Gino ahead of his expected return to Seven Barrows next week.
The top-class four-year-old suffered a fractured pelvis when looking to cement his Champion Hurdle credentials at Prestbury Park on Saturday and was instantly transferred to Three Counties Veterinary Clinic.
Speaking on Sky Sports Racing, Henderson said: "He's doing well, I've spoke to them (Three Counties) again and they're very good, you get bulletins all day and night which is great.
"He's had another comfortable night, he's weight-bearing off that off-hind leg which is very good news.
"We're hopeful that they will be able to pop him in the ambulance and bring him back to Seven Barrows sometime next week.
"They say you won't really know the true extent of it for three or four months; it's a long-term prognosis."
Sir Gino was the ante-post market leader for the Champion Hurdle heading into trials day but with Nicky Henderson's star ruled out of the season, Lossiemouth now tops the betting ahead of her expected run against Brighterdaysahead in the Irish Champion Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival this weekend. Dan Skelton's The New Lion, who went on to land the trial on Saturday, is next best at a general 5/2.
