Sharp’s rising star steps up as Colac Kid recovers

While Colac Kid spends time on the sidelines with a hock injury, trainer Jason Sharp believes he may already have the next star of his kennel emerging.

That greyhound is Eventuate , who will line up in a heat of the Group 1 Sportsbet Australian Cup at The Meadows on Saturday night.

The young chaser will contest the opening heat from box eight (Race 3), and Sharp is confident her best is still ahead of her.

"She hasn't fully worked it out yet, and when she does, I've no doubt her times will come down," Sharp said.

"I don't say this often, but she has the potential to be the next star of our kennel."

Eventuate is one of three runners for Team Sharp on the night, with Highly Connected  (Race 9, Box 3) and Hot Nanu (Race 11, Box 8) also set to represent the kennel.

One notable absentee, however, will be Colac Kid, who was injured during the Match Race on Phoenix night.

"He sustained a crack to his hock during the Match Race," Sharp said.

"He's had two screws and a plate put in."

Colac Kid is now in recovery, but Sharp hasn't ruled out a return to the track for the dual Group race winner once he has fully rehabilitated.
