Best Bets

RACE 5 – (7) PRINCESS QUE: Smart Victorian mare heads north for her first start in 11 weeks primed to add to her good fresh record after performing well with a win and a placing in recent jump outs at Flemington. She won first-up last prep as favourite over 1200m at Sandown and is well placed in this company, suggesting her trainer Simon Zahra perused the programs looking for a race of this class to target first-up.

RACE 7 – (13) SEQUISTA: Genuine filly in the right form. She earned black type as a 2YO and got her deserved maiden win two runs back when scoring by a big margin over 1100m at Gosford. Backed up with a game third over this trip at Randwick and with the claim for Braith Nock will drop 4kg off that run to carry 1kg under the limit. Placed in her only start at this track adds to her appeal.

RACE 8 – (4) WHINCHAT: Right race for this strong front runner to bounce back to his best after an encouraging first-up sixth in a deep form race over 1400m at Rosehill. A strong trial placing followed that effort and with a nice drop in weight from 59kg to 56kg he's well placed in this field on his best form. Only needs to jump on terms and he should dictate the speed.

Why They Can Win….

RACE 1 - (5) ROYAL EXILE: Strong winner over older horses on debut. Must benefit from that experience.

RACE 2 - (11) MOVE SHE CAN: Has come back in good form. Can exploit light weight from all important low draw.

RACE 3 – (7) OAKFIELD SATURN: Proven winner this course and distance. Well placed to add to his record.

RACE 4 – (6) SOUNDS UNUSUAL: Excellent work late when second up. Can only improve over this longer trip.

RACE 6 – (5) PETTICOAT: Honest performer in this class. Course and conditions will suit.

RACE 9 – (7) MARE OF MT BULLER: Tough mare nicely weighted off her latest win. Should hold that form.

TRIAL POINTERS

ROSEHILL January 2: In the fastest 1030m trial (61.02; 34.32) runner-up WHINCHAT could have won the heat if asked for a late effort. Rarely has he not led in his trials but he was ridden off the pace in this heat and was under a big hold working strongly to the line over the last 200m.

ROSEHILL December 23: Classy filly AKAYSHA has freshened up nicely since her strong spring campaign. Had plenty to offer finishing off under a hold for second in her 900m open heat (55.32; 34.04). NORTH ENGLAND continues to work towards his return to racing, being put under pressure to win the fastest 900m heat (53.31; 33.59). A good class 1030m heat (60.15; 34.18) saw a nice effort from LA ROJA.

RANDWICK December 9: In the quickest 850m open heat (49.17; 32.66) NORTH ENGLAND is sure to take plenty of benefit from his wide run for fourth

WARWICK FARM December 8: Runners to impress with easy efforts included SAVVY HALLIE.
