Rashabar re-directed to the Irish 2000 Guineas

Malton trainer Brian Meehan reported this morning that French 2000 Guineas (Poule d'Essai des Poulains) hope Rashabar will miss the race and be re-directed to the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh instead.

A class act as a two-year-old, winning the six furlongs Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot before a pair of placed efforts in Group One company in France, one each at Deauville and Longchamp, beaten by Whistlejacket and Camille Pissaro respectively, both trained by Aidan O'Brien.

He had been quoted a s short as 12/1 for Paris, his supporters will be looking for a big run in Ireland instead, where he may come up against the likes of Harry Charlton's impressive Cosmic Year, but with a promising second to Jonquil on his seasonal return, he could yet have some say.

Brian Meehan said:

"Unfortunately, Rashabar will miss the Poule d'Essai des Poulains this Sunday. He spiked a temperature a couple of days ago and subsequent bloods have shown he is not 100%. As always in these situations it is better to be cautious and we will now aim for the Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh."

In his absence, British and Irish entries for the French 2000 Guineas include Charlie Appleby's Aomori City, the Gosden's Detain, Andrew Balding's Jonquil, and Peter Chapple-Hyam's Harvey, while master Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien has five entered, in Rock Of Cashel, Henri Matisse, Officer, Serengeti, and Camille Pissaro.

Coolmore's Henri Matisse currently heads the market at 9/2 with Godolphin's Amori on the second line at 6/1 and Andrew Balding's Jonquil has a quote of 7/1.

Further declarations will be made on Wednesday with the field to be finalised on Thursday.
