Raging Force on trial for The Galaxy
Champion trainer Peter Snowden is keen to test promising three-year-old Raging Force against older sprinters including The Everest winner Giga Kick in the Group 2 $500,000 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
"Raging Force is coming up really well, his trials and trackwork are very good, so I'm not frightened about running him against the older horses,'' Snowden said."We are thinking of going to The Galaxy (Group 1, $1 million, Rosehill, 1100m, March 21) with him so we can see how he goes against the more experienced sprinters on Saturday.''
"I have to give Raging Force and Beadman their best chance to win,'' Snowden said. "They are both very talented and there is not much between them.
"If Beadman can win the Fireball, then I would be keen to run him in The Galaxy, too.
"But if we don't go to The Galaxy, then we have the Darby Munro Stakes on the same day and then to the Arrowfield Sprint at Randwick.''
It was a disappointing result for Snowden as he has both three-year-olds primed for the Group 1 sprint.
"Beadman had a really good preparation but on game day it all went wrong – I was shattered by his run,'' Snowden said.
"I'm not sure what happened that day. His jump-out down the straight was good then Blake Shinn rode him in a track gallop and was very confident.
"But in the Coolmore, Beadman jumped and just took off. The sectionals he ran in the first half of the race were crazy, he couldn't keep going and it set the race up for Tentyris.''
Raging Force was travelling well mid-race but then was put out of the race after colliding with his stablemate.
"But then Tentyris swept by and pushed Beadman onto Raging Force and flattened him.
"Tommy said Raging Force almost went down on his nose but if that hadn't happened he felt the horse would have run a place. He was only beaten a half head by Tentyris at Caulfield at his previous start.''
Meanwhile, Snowden is in two minds about whether to run Golden Slipper hopeful Pearl Of Dubai in the Group 2 $300,000 Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday or wait for the Group 3 $200,000 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) at Canberra on Sunday.
Further complicating the issue for Snowden is the wide barriers the filly has in both races – she is drawn to start from gate 13 at Randwick and 16 for the Canberra race.
