Racing SA Secures Strathalbyn Land, Unlocking Plans for Future Industry Needs
Racing SA is pleased to confirm settlement of the previously announced land purchase adjacent to Strathalbyn Racecourse, marking an important milestone in the long-term planning of South Australian thoroughbred racing infrastructure.
The 11-hectare parcel of land, located on the southern boundary of the racecourse, will support Racing SA's future planning to meet growing demand across the industry.
The purchase provides an opportunity to plan for expanded facilities at Strathalbyn, including year-round quality racing and training surfaces, and long-term on-course stabling.
Racing SA Chief Executive Officer, Nick Bawden, said completion of settlement was an exciting step for the South Australian industry.
"This is an important milestone for Racing SA and for the broader South Australian thoroughbred industry. Securing this land gives Racing SA the opportunity to cater for current demand and ensure we have the infrastructure capacity to support the industry over the long term.
A key priority is improving access to quality surfaces for racing and training across the year, which is critical as we continue to manage demand across the state's racing and training network."
Racing SA Chairman Rob Rorrison said the acquisition reflects the organisation's focus on long-term infrastructure planning.
"This purchase is about making sure we are well placed to meet the needs of participants into the future. Strathalbyn is located within an important racing and equine region, and this land provides a strong foundation for future development."
Racing SA said any development timeline will be dependent on funding and would be progressed in stages in consultation with key stakeholders.
Racing SA also acknowledged the support of the Strathalbyn Racing Club and Alexandrina Council throughout the development and planning process.
"We appreciate the support of the Club and local Council, both of whom have been very supportive of the long-term vision for this development and the role it can play for the local community, local business and the South Australian racing industry," Bawden added.
Further updates on this exciting development will be provided when available.
