Winning Trainer: Bjorn Baker
On coming back after falling ill in Qld: "Full credit to all my team, particularly my vet, Alan Froggley, and the vets who looked after him up in Queensland. He got very, very sick, very fast and for him to get back here and do that is pretty special."
When did you know you had him back?: "He had a gallop a couple of weeks ago and went as good as ever. Probably his trial the other day as well."
"You always hope there is improvement, and us trainers say there's improvement, we're just hoping too. I do think there is genuine improvement going into the Slipper in two weeks."
Come to Todman confident in the horse?: "I did, but I haven't been quite hitting the mark as a stable lately. I'm honest about that, so he has had to overcome the trainer at the moment too."
"He's pretty special and I know you have to look at times and analyse it, and maybe it's not quite the (best) time. But he is going to improve so much. He's got the best constitution, he's got a great pedigree and a great bunch of owners, so very lucky to have him, and very lucky to have him back where he is at the moment too."
Natural speed important in Slipper?: "Speed, speed, speed. That's what we breed for in Australia. Fast, strong, tough horses. I'll tell you what, he's fast and tough and hopefully we'll find out how strong he is in a couple of weeks."
Winning Jockey: Jason Collett
On bouncing back after a set-back: "I would've loved to have won on him in the Magic Millions but we got more confidence off today after doing that. He has come back and he's well so that's really encouraging."
On the training performance: "Credit to Bjorn (Baker) and his team and his vet. A horse that has had travel sickness, I didn't know a lot about it beforehand. I thought 'well, that's our chance of winning a Millions or even a Slipper out the window.' To be here today, that's all due to them."
On the ride: "I did give it easy the first half of the race so that created a sprint home which is what I've got up my sleeve. I've got a very good turn of foot and was able to change legs and get over the rise. I thought 'well, it's only fitness that will get me late'."
Beaten Jockeys:
Chad Schofield (Stretan Ruler): "It was just a trot and canter up front. The winner had a picnic and sprinted sharply. My horse was very strong late."
James McDonald (Hidrix): "He did a good enough job. With the blinkers on he jumped well, put himself in a good position, stayed on well."
Tommy Berry (Incognito): "I was happy with him today. It was an absolute walking race. They sprinted home quite quickly. I know a lot of people will drop off him but I'm definitely not."
Nash Rawiller (Wolf Gap): "He went OK I thought. May have felt the firmer ground a touch. Showed good improvement."
Regan Bayliss (Nomadic): "I liked his run. A race like the Baillieu in three weeks time would suit him down to the ground."
Kerrin McEvoy (Seraphox): "He is a lovely horse. Moves really well, has a good attitude. For a first run that was promising and there is more to come from him."
Zac Lloyd (Tornado Valley): "Good run. Probably a horse looking for a bit further now. When they went that tempo, they were always going to be sharper but he was good through the line."
