New Trainer, New Track for SA Sprinter Extremely Lucky
The former Will Clarken and Niki O'Shea-trained six-year-old has landed in the hands of the former jumps jockey who has quickly established himself as one of the up-and-coming trainers in Victoria.
Extremely Lucky's rating and lack of suitable local racing options were the catalyst for the move.
"Will's a good mate of mine, he'd sort of reached his mark in Adelaide at this time of year, rather than go back and forwards between Melbourne and Adelaide, they decided to leave him in my care,'' Bedggood said on SEN Track.
"Hopefully a straight race where they sit up a little more, it might give him a chance to be electric at the end of it,'' he said.
Bedggood said he was still learning about the horse who has shown plenty during his 25-start career, highlighted by his win in the Group 3 Hawkes Stakes at Morphettville last April.
"I gave him a jump out on Monday morning and thought he was only fair,'' Bedggood added.
"I sort of thought that he would smoke up in behind them, pop out late and show that turn of foot, I just thought he laboured a little bit,
"He didn't trial too badly, I'm still learning about the horse, I thought he would be a little sharper, so we've elected to put a set of blinkers on,"
"He's schooled over some logs and tyres, something different to change his routine,'' he said.
Extremely Lucky was an eye-catching runner at Oakbank on Easter Saturday in the Listed Hills Railway Stakes when he slipped and almost fell before running third behind Volcanic Express.
He went to Melbourne and was beaten 3.96 lengths behind Niance and Cleo Cat in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes last time out.
