Ladbrokes Blog: 2025 Lord Mayor’s Cup Day Preview
Ten races at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday are headlined by the Listed Lord Mayors Cup.
For more racing and sports previews, visit the Ladbrokes Blog.
The rail will be left in the true position around the entire course, but with the weather not improving dramatically in Sydney this week, we're set to be racing on another heavy track.
Check out my Rosehill best bets below.
Race 1 - 11am: Schweppes Handicap (1300m)
Hidden Achievement rates as a key winning chance again at Rosehill this week.
After debuting with a fine performance to finish second behind an impressive Mia Ballerina at Canterbury last month, the I Am Invincible colt hit the line to break his maiden at Gosford last time.
Fitter third-up, something like this looks the next logical target for him.
2 Units Hidden Achievement
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 1
Race 2 - 11:35am: Highway Plate (1500m)
Boys Night Out looks the one to beat in this week's Highway race.
Boys Night Out is yet to strike in three runs back from break, but he has improved noticeably with each of them, and he has finished the runner up at both Doomben and Eagle Farm most notably.
He steps out this week a fit horse and is well placed in a race like this.
3 Units Boys Night Out
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 2
Race 3 - 12:10pm: Midway Handicap (1100m)
Formal takes winning form into this contest.
Formal has been a model of consistency this time in, and he was rewarded for three-consecutive placings with a dominant four-length victory in BM64 company at Wyong last time out.
He's certainly earned a crack at a race of this quality, and I am confident he can go on with it.
1 Unit Formal
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 3
Race 4 - 12:45pm: Precise Air Handicap (1500m)
Maori Chief has recorded two wins from as many starts this time and chases the hat-trick on Saturday.
Having beaten home a quality field at Randwick-Kensington last month, Maori Chief franked that performance by winning again in BM68 company last time out.
This is another rise in class, but he's proven to love a rain-affected track and getting out to the 1500m looks ideal at this point of his preparation.
1 Unit Maori Chief
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 4
Race 5 - 1:20pm: Toyota Forklifts Handicap (1100m)
Ellipsis is second up and open to improvement.
The Bjorn Baker-trained filly stamped herself as one to follow during a smart debut preparation, but she returned to action last month for a nice win in BM64 company, her best effort to date.
She's been kept up to the mark with a nice trial since that race and can win again on Lord Mayors Cup Day.
4 Units Ellipsis
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 5
Race 6 - 1:55pm: Ranvet Handicap (1500m)
Furious is third up and primed to strike.
After blowing off the cobwebs when finishing on the placegetters' heels at Randwick late last month, Furious couldn't have done a lot more without winning a BM78 at the midweeks last time out.
There's some good horses engaged in this race, but Furious has the upside and is well placed again.
1 Unit Furious
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 6
Race 7 - 2:30pm: Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1200m)
Kerguelen resumes in a nice race.
Kerguelen hasn't been seen at the races since November, but he's yet to turn in a poor performance, winning two of five career starts and finishing the runner up on every other occasion.
He's had the benefit of a couple of trials ahead on Saturday's return and with even luck in running, I can't find a reason why he won't be in the finish again.
2 Units Kerguelen
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 7
Race 8 - 3:05pm: Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m)
This is an open edition of the Lord Mayors Cup and at publish, we're looking at $5 the field.
Classy import Glory Daze relished getting onto a heavy track last time out and looks likely to get those conditions again at Rosehill on Saturday.
Glory Daze was disappointing in 2024, and after a couple of only fair efforts first and second up this time, he was excellent last week.
I like that he's on the quick back-up and on a rain-affected track, this looks a nice black type target for him.
1 Unit Glory Daze
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 8
Race 9 - 3:40pm: Captivant @ Kia Ora Handicap (1800m)
This might be the most open race on the program and there's a case to be made for plenty of them.
One that appealed at an each-way price in my opinion is last-start winner Seafall.
Seafall has come up with a horror draw this week, but she steps out third-up and following a nice victory in BM72 company at Warwick Farm, greeting the judge more than a length and a half ahead of her closest rivals.
Fitter third-up and further out in trip, she looks to have genuine each way claims again this week.
1 Unit E/W Seafall
BET NOW: Rosehill Race 9
Race 10 - 4:20pm: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m)
Summer Flame is still sweating on a run, but it looks a nice one for her if she does gain a start.
Summer Flame has made just four appearances at the races since debuting but broke her maiden at Mornington at her first star, while she returned from a freshen up to strike in the Listed Denise's Joy Stakes at Scone a fortnight ago.
With natural improvement, she can go on with it.
1 Unit E/W Summer Flame
