King’s best bets - 4th March 2026
Sam King is back with two selections on Wednesday.
There will be no prizes for originality for my first selection, but I suspect that Homer Stokes could take the world of beating in the Bet 10 Get 40 With BetMGM Classified Stakes (3.02).
The Barron team have been in good form of late, but they'll be disappointed that Homer Stokes hasn't been capable of adding to their tally in recent starts.
He's been knocking hard on the door in recent starts in classified company and in all truth, he probably should have won when runner-up over seven furlongs here last time out.
After being short of room at the two-furlong marker, Home Stokes ran on well to go down by half a length at the line, and I cannot help but think that the result might have been different had the eventual winner not stolen first run on him in the straight.
Stepping up to a mile this afternoon should pose no problems and in what looks like a winnable contest, he must have every chance of snapping the losing streak.
Homer Stokes – 2pt Win
Odds – 6/5
Over at Kempton this evening, the claims of Miletus in the Unibet Proudly Supporting Women In Racing Handicap (6.00) are there for all to see and he ought to be going very close off the back of a highly promising stable debut at Lingfield.
He was just James Keane's second ever runner when finding one too good at Lingfield last time and whilst connections might have left a few quid behind (strong in the betting), they surely can't be disappointed with the performance he put up.
Albeit he was nicely positioned throughout, he picked up well in the straight to take up the lead before his lack of a recent outing just looked to tell in the closing stages.
He's gone up 2lb for that effort but he's still 5lb lower than when a good fourth in a stronger course and distance handicap last season and with that in mind, this unexposed all-weather performer looks well-poised to regain the winning thread with that reappearance run under the belt.
Miletus – 1pt Win
Odds – 5/2
