Race 8: Clarence (2nd) and Gin Rummy (6th)

Clarence is crying out to win a race this campaign and again showed on Saturday that he's got his hoof on the till.

He's been winless since January but there has been merit in most of his runs, including on Saturday where he finished powerfully behind the impressive Bancoora.

From a wide barrier, he was taken back to last and Ben Price rode for luck up the fence. While he got the runs on a section of the track that provided several winners during the day, he gave the winner and other key rivals a head start.

He reeled off some impressive late sectionals to reel in all bar the winner, who looks destined for better grade. With a rating of 64, Clarence will be hard to beat if he can draw a barrier in the right race in the final month of the season.

Gin Rummy settled in front of Clarence and finished almost two lengths behind him but there was a lot to like about the fresh run from a horse that will excel over 1600m and beyond.

The Alexander Justice-trained gelding should be able to add to his winning tally over the coming weeks.
