Jamie Melham to ride Sheza Alibi in the Doncaster

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Jamie Melham has picked up the prized ride on outstanding filly Sheza Alibi in the $4 million Doncaster Mile.

Trainer Peter Moody announced Sheza Alibi's new rider for the famous Randwick mile with Melham to ride the filly at 49kg.

"Sheza Alibi update – Jamie Melham confirmed as rider for the Doncaster H'cap (Mile) at 49kg,'' Moody said.

Melham has ridden 19 Group 1 winners so far during her celebrated riding career including her famous Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup double on Half Yours last spring. She has also won a Doncaster Mile with Cascadian in 2021.

Sheza Alibi rocketed into Doncaster Mile contention when she thrashed some of the best three-year-olds colts in training in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas over the Randwick 1600m course last Saturday.

TAB Fixed Odds inserted Sheza Alibi at $8 for the Doncaster Mile after that win with Moody and his co-trainer, Katherine Coleman, initially indicating she would miss the Randwick race and be aimed at the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) instead.

But there has been increasing speculation since Monday that Sheza Alibi would be aimed at the Doncaster with the filly continuing to firm even though she was not a definite starter.

Once Moody confirmed Melham would ride Sheza Alibi, the filly shortened to outright favouritism at $2.30, displacing unbeaten super mare Autumn Glow who has eased to $3.50.

Sheza Alibi gets a massive 7.5kg off Autumn Glow as she bids to become the first three-year-old filly to win the Doncaster since champion Sunline in 1999.
