Greyhounds Give Back to District 13

The Healesville Greyhound Association has once again proven it is a pillar of the local community, raising more than $23,000 (and counting) for the Country Fire Authority (CFA).

Spurred on by the challenging fires in Longwood earlier this year, Healesville Greyhounds Club Manager Peter Frost said the club was eager to find a meaningful way to say thank you to those on the front line.

"The CFA do such important work, saving lives and homes," Frost said.

"The club wanted the opportunity to give back to the CFA members for everything they've done for Victoria."

"And what better way to do that than a day out at the greyhounds on us, while also raising money for the brigades."

The fundraising effort took the form of a Family Funday and outdoor concert featuring Scarecrow, with all proceeds from the day going directly to local CFA brigades.

The club also hosted 170 firefighters from 16 brigades across Victoria, turning the event into both a celebration and a heartfelt show of appreciation.

"It's really important to me that the club plays an integral role, not only in our local community but across Victoria as a whole," Frost said.

"Following the success of the day – with more than $22,000 raised and over 250 people on course – this will become an annual event, and I can't wait to see it grow."

Healesville Greyhounds is no stranger to successful fundraising initiatives. In June, the club hosted the second edition of The Big Freeze, raising more than $31,000 for Fight MND.

Adding a special personal touch to the day, Bluestream Photography's Clint Anderson volunteered his time to capture the event – even though it fell on his birthday.

"I also wanted to thank the dedicated staff we have at Healesville who are committed to the Club and its success."
