Gear change for Guru

Home base favoured over interstate options for Adelaide galloper.

Andrew Gluyas has resisted the temptation to chase a lucrative Melbourne payday with emerging middle distance galloper Guru Warrior and will instead hope to see some continued improvement from the cantankerous gelding at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

Guru Warrior has won three consecutive races this campaign, albeit his tendency to lay out under pressure at the end of his races has created some nervous moments for punters.

It's one of the reasons why the G1-winning trainer has kept Guru Warrior in Adelaide, despite several suitable options for more stake money in Victoria.

The son of Saxon Warrior will again start an odds-on favourite in Saturday's benchmark 78 handicap over 2250m at Morphettville Parks and Gluyas hopes the addition of visors and a lugging bit can see him run straight under Jason Holder.

"His winning but he's got a few little foibles there that we're trying to work through," Gluyas said.

"Off a nice draw on Saturday we go up to 2250m for the first time and hopefully with the little tinker of the gear we can get him to run straight on Saturday.

"He's been exposed at the top of the straight in his last couple of starts so hopefully the visors can just give him that little bit of help that he needs at the right time of the race.

"We looked at some of those races (Melbourne) but he's just not quite ready for that with the way he's racing.

"We just need to season him that little bit more before we tackle any bigger races."
