French banker of the day - 3rd March 2026
Tuesday’s French banker is an unexposed three-year-old looking to take a step forward from his promising reappearance effort…
Pen And Sword (Christophe Soumillon/Hiroo Shimizu)
Chantilly – R1 - Prix Le Sancy
The booking of top jockey Christophe Soumillon suggests there might be a bigger effort expected from Pen And Sword and he could be worth taking a chance on in the opening Prix Le Sancy.
He struggled when pitched up into black-type company over the five furlongs as a two-year-old but following 159 days off the track, he returned to action with a highly promising fourth-place finish over six and a half furlongs at Deauville last month.
That was his first outing since August and he shaped as though a step forward would be on the cards, while it was also pleasing to see him see out the extra distance nicely enough on his all-weather debut.
As previously mentioned, the booking of Soumillon has to be seen as a major positive and he looks capable of playing a major role in this Class 2 contest.
