Big guns stand their ground for Dublin Racing Festival

The likes of Galopin Des Champs, Kopek Des Bordes and Lossiemouth look set to strut their stuff at Leopardstown this weekend, should the course survive an early scare due to the threat of Storm Chandra.

Leopardstown, which is due to stage a staggering eight Grade 1's including the Irish Gold Cup across the course of the weekend, was described as waterlogged and unraceable on Tuesday morning after a further 58mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

However, should the meeting go ahead, spectators can expect to see plenty of fireworks after all major contenders featured at the latest confirmation stage revealed on Tuesday lunchtime.

Galopin Des Champs will look to equal Florida Pearl's record by winning a fourth Irish Gold Cup, with Willie Mullins' star set to face a whole host of challengers, including recent Savills Chase conqueror Affordale Fury, last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup scorer Inothewayurthinkin, Gaelic Warrior and Fact To File, plus Rebecca Curtis' Welsh National hero Haiti Couleurs.

As so often is the case, Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott dominate the entries throughout the sixteen-races over the weekend.

Gordon Elliott's Romeo Coolio still has both the Ladbrokes Novice Chase and the Goffs Irish Arkle as options. Willie Mullins looks likely to field his Grade 1 Limerick scorer Final Demand in the former, while last year's Supreme Novices' Hurdle hero Kopek Des Bordes could make just his second start over fences in the latter.

The Ladbrokes Dublin Chase-bound Marine Nationale will look to reverse the form with Solness from their meeting over course and distance last month, with both Majborough and Found A Fifty also in contention.

Over hurdles, there looks to be another humongous rematch on the cards as Lossiemouth gears up to take on Gordon Elliott's Brighterdaysahead in the Irish Champion Hurdle.
