Apocalyptic likely to miss the Sydney autumn carnival
Star filly Apocalyptic is unlikely to race again during the Sydney autumn carnival.
Trainer Michael Freedman told Racing And Sports Apocalyptic is undergoing a series of veterinary tests after the filly has raced below expectations in two starts this campaign.
"We haven't got to the bottom of it just yet, we are spending the week trying to find out what is bothering her,'' Freedman said.
"She is a much better filly than what we have seen first-up and again second-up the other day.
"One way or another, I think she will end up going to the paddock, we will give her some time off and start again.''
But after an indifferent first-up effort when second as odds on favourite behind Savvy Hallie in the Light Fingers Stakes, Apocalyptic was obviously well below her best when beaten 5 lengths into 4th placing in Tempted's Surround Stakes last Saturday.
"I know when this filly is right she is far better than what we have seen from her in both starts this preparation,'' Freedman said.
"We are getting these tests done and hopefully they will give us some answers. But we won't take any risks with her and we will give her the time she needs.''
Apocalyptic, a daughter of Newgate's super sire Extreme Choice, has only had seven career starts for three wins and three second placings before last week's disappointing unplaced effort.
