Academy Launches High Performance Program

The Racing SA Apprentice Academy has partnered with Quantum Performance to launch a new High Performance Apprentice Program, designed to elevate jockey training and development in South Australia.

Delivered by Quantum Performance, the structured program provides apprentices with access to resources, coaching, allied health services, and development opportunities tailored to the unique demands of race riding.

"The Apprentice Academy SA has a reputation for producing world-class jockeys, and we want our apprentices to develop elite skills and habits from the very start of their careers," said Apprentice Academy Talent Manager Ruby Mayers.

Ruby said the concept had been a long-term goal since she joined the Academy.
"I've wanted to introduce a high-performance program since I started and have visited academies interstate to see how they operate. I don't believe there's another program like this in racing anywhere in the country. It's not just about improving fitness – it's about diet, recovery, injury prevention and mental wellbeing," she said.

The program will be delivered by a team of expert practitioners including David Heyneman, Quantum Performance Director and Physiotherapist, who will focus on injury management and rehabilitation, Chris Rawling, an Exercise Physiologist who will design strength and conditioning programs specific to the physical demands of race riding, and Emily Hartley, a Sports Dietitian and Nutritionist of Nom Nutrition, who will provide customised nutrition plans, workshops and consultations.

Ruby highlighted the calibre of the team, noting their extensive experience working with elite athletes.

"We've created a high-performance team who are all incredibly qualified. Emily works with the Port Adelaide Football Club, as well as Volleyball Australia and Tennis Australia, helping athletes improve their nutrition and overall performance. Chris is a lecturer at Flinders University and High-Performance Coach with the Australian Triathlon Team, while David is already well-known to many of our jockeys and highly regarded in the industry."

All three practitioners will also work closely with Doctor Stephen Kennett, ensuring every apprentice jockey in South Australia has access to the best possible support to reach their full potential.
